As a lead sponsor of Leeds Manufacturing Festival, E3 Recruitment will be supporting Leeds City College Engineering students with their transition from student to employee at the Manufacturing Careers Showcase.
Through our commitment to bridging the UK’s current skills gap within engineering and manufacturing, it is incredibly important that we provide support to young people by helping them link the skills learnt through their studies with skills needed to secure a role with a manufacturing or engineering company.
On Wednesday, we will be running Employability Skills workshops at the Manufacturing Careers Showcase for forty BTec Level students, which will include training on CV writing, interview techniques and how to prepare for the workplace. The workshops hosted by Matt Booth (Business Sector Manager), Callum Good (Recruitment Consultant), and Laura Rogers (Communications & PR Manager) who, when combined, have over 15 years of experience within Recruitment specifically for the manufacturing and engineering industries.
Sixteen of the region’s manufacturers will also be in attendance, including Oilgear, Brandon Medical, Harrison Spinks, CCL Stressing Systems Ltd, HWL Windows, Kirkstall Precision Engineering, Greyhound Box, Marton Mills, Daletech, MPM, Medasil, Leeds Welding Company, Pland Stainless and Sound Leisure. Representatives will be talking with students about how their companies work, the modernization of the manufacturing industry in recent years, the many opportunities available upon completion of BTec’s or further study and showcasing the benefits of working within their companies.
Our client, Sulzer, a Global pump manufacturer with a site in Leeds will be in attendance. HR Business Partner, Alice McEvoy commented: “We’re really enthusiastic about being part of Leeds Manufacturing Festival this year to help young people in Leeds understand the opportunities for working in Manufacturing and Engineering. It’s not always easy for young people to find out what opportunities are available or what working in this industry is really like, so we’re excited about providing an insight into working life at Sulzer!”
Oilgear, an E3R client and a lead manufacturer of hydraulic systems will be exhibiting at the event. HR Business Partner, Cheryl Evans, comments: “Leeds Manufacturing Festival and the Manufacturing Showcase event is going to be a great opportunity to be actively involved in encouraging young people to start a career in our industry and be able to showcase our business and talk about what we can offer. We recognise the importance to invest, encourage and nurture talent and this has been recognised from the top with Chris Howie, our VP stating that education in youth ensures our future investment in innovation and contributes to our continuous development.”
The Manufacturing Careers Showcase will be a brilliant opportunity for manufacturers to meet the workforce of the future and build a strong pipeline of future talent, actively help close the skills gap and ensure that the UK has strong labour prospects in the years to come.
Having worked within manufacturing recruitment for over five years, Matt Booth is actively involved in supporting manufacturers to gain insights into the skills and talent needed to future proof their businesses and assisting candidates to secure temporary or permanent work with our clients. Speaking ahead of the event, Matt said: “After years in education, it’s now time for these young people to join the workforce, and we want to support them in any way we can, and we hope the students will take away some key pointers when it comes to applying for a role and starting a new position. It’s great that so many Leeds manufacturers have signed up to the Manufacturing Career Showcase to help give young people an insight into our industry.”
To wrap up the day and make sure that no questions go unanswered, the day will conclude with a careers panel, including Matt, and several key individuals from the manufacturing industry and will allow students to ask and engage after a full day of developing their knowledge and skills.
The Manufacturing Careers Festival has been organised by Ahead Partnership and is part of a programme of events for Leeds Manufacturing Festival 2022.
